New cows in their pen. |
Mayor’s Report:
In what seemed like a surprise only to me, Ando
Postmael decided not to run for re-election this year. Instead, he placed his
support with Laver Foure who ran for the seat unopposed. After the election,
the council decided that sole ownership of the land known as Barents Island
would be transferred to Postmael, to develop agriculture and industry. I
could not go against the wishes of the council, as they argued and demonstrated
that their plan was in the best interest of the town going forward, increasing
our food supply, creating jobs and exports.
Laver's year was marred by the death of his wife, Vanesha Jacobs, in the quarry in another accident late in the summer.
We have obtained wheat seeds, and are planting new
wheat fields to increase our food supply. We took another hit last year with
the acceptance of two new families. We’ve also traded for milk cows in what
proved to be our best year for trade last year.
A new pasture for the cows is nearing completion. We’re
also constructing a boarding house near the hospital to assist with any
future new arrivals, and to also temporarily house current families as we
upgrade their houses.
As we enter the year, we have just over 7 months of
food in reserve. This needs to be turned around as quickly as possible, as
one bad season can now lead to hunger and starvation. At least seven new
children are expected by mid-year.
Evelt Aerts council seat is up for election this year. |
