The new grain silo looms large over the town.

Patroon’s Report:
While tension with England mount, the situation with the English settlers already here in New Netherland is much more cordial. They fled England in search of religious tolerance, which they have found here. They have very little interest in once again becoming subjects of a king who will force a state religion on them.

More troubling is the news from New Amsterdam which has seen unprovoked attacks on the natives responded to in kind. The States-General has been little use. The VOC, likewise, is ineffective in meeting the needs of the citizenry of the province. I get the feeling from many residents down there that submission to English rule would almost be welcome.

Trade attempts once again proved fruitless. We completed a new grain silo and have laid the groundwork for a windmill and bakeries. Our new family, the Joostens, are expecting their first child sometime in the summer. Iron and log reserves are burgeoning. Stone is being used as fast as it can be gathered. We want not for food, tools or clothing. The citizenry remains healthy and happy.

Our elections for Town Council were uneventful. Three men ran for office, one for each seat. They all received the same number of votes. We drew lots to decide the initial terms for each of their offices. Evelt Aerts will serve 3 years before his seat is up for election. Andro Postmael will serve four years. Kings Jacobs will serve an initial five year term. Our next election will be in 1665 for Evelt Aert’s seat.
