Patroon’s Report: New Amsterdam has been taken by the English. It has only been a few months, so there has been no immediate impact in Wiltwyck. Four English ships sailed into the harbor, demanded surrender, and the people there willingly handed over the city. There have been no visits north from the English yet, but word is that now former Director General Stuyvesant negotiated a favorable surrender, in which we will retain our freedom of religion. The settlements just north of what is now being called New York have also capitulated. I expect an emissary will arrive in the very near future to discuss the terms of surrender. In light of events, the election was cancelled and Evelt Aerts will retain his seat. This year’s election will also be postponed until our future is more assured. We did receive a new family into the town. The Laurens clan has settled into their new jobs as laborers. I expect this to be a very quiet year in terms of construction and expansion.
