Looking west into the town. Plans have been made for two new blacksmiths at this point, after coal and iron mines are excavated.

Mayor’s Report:
A fire in the residential district shortly after the new year destroyed two wooden houses and temporarily displaced the families living there. The houses were replaced quickly and life returned to normal. Due to increased tensions between the English and Dutch, foul play was suspected, but can’t be confirmed. The construction of a well so close to the fire scene enabled us to quickly get it extinguished.

Kings Jacobs won his re-election bid without facing a challenge. Andro Postmael’s seat is up for election this year.

We had a minor food shortfall last year after back to back surpluses. We have planted a new bean field to make up the difference.

We will continue to expand our housing options. The plans have been drawn up to create a new style of house with glass windows out of a current stone house. We’ll also try a house built on the riverbank.

The island in the North River has been named Baerents Island. There have been several competing suggestions in how to use it, from keeping it pristine to using is as prime farmland to building a massive fortress. The most popular, though, seems to be a mixed use of agricultural and commercial, with crops grown and milled or fermented. Discussions will continue, as action won’t be needed until we have enough people to actually work the land.
